Our family loves celebrating Independence Day, and Kansas City has some great options to celebrate! Looking for idea on where to watch fireworks this 4th of July? Here is a list of the top Independence Day celebrations in the Kansas City area.
Overland Park’s Star Spangled Spectacular
Break out your red, white and blue and celebrate Independence Day in the best way possible – surrounded by friends, family and fireworks at Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular. This beloved community tradition is bigger, louder and more fun than ever, lighting up Corporate Woods Founders’ Park on Friday, July 4, 2025. Events start at 5pm with tons of food truck options and music. Fireworks are set to go off at 10pm. Rain date: July 5th (fireworks only).
Smithville Lake Dam Fireworks Display
Join us for the annual Smithville Fireworks Show sponsored by the City of Smithville and Clay County! This free fireworks show will be set off from Smith’s Fork Park (North side of the Spillway) at dusk, roughly 9PM. Great spots to watch the show are at Smith’s Fork Park, on the Lake near the dam, Smith’s Fork Campground, and surrounding areas around the park. Parking is available throughout Smith’s Fork Park.
Stars and Stripes Picnic
The Stars and Stripes Picnic at the National WWI Museum and Memorial is Kansas City’s official Independence Day celebration! Bring your friends and family to grab a bite to eat, shop from local vendors, listen to live music and enjoy the largest fireworks display in the city. The park opens up at 3pm with fireworks at 9:30. There will be tons of musical performances and food trucks to occupy your time before the fireworks start.
Celebrate the Fourth on the Farm
Join us for a fun-filled morning of festivities as we honor Independence Day at the Deanna Rose Farmstead. Get ready for an unforgettable experience filled with entertainment, contests and good old-fashioned American spirit.
Families enjoy live entertainment, old-fashioned games and activities from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Top it off by participating in our bike parade.
This event is free with Farmstead admission.
Olathe Fireworks Display
Celebrate Independence Day in Olathe on July 4 with the annual fireworks display at College Boulevard Activity Center (11031 S. Valley Pkwy.). The show begins at dark, approximately 9:45 p.m. Restrooms and hand washing stations will be available throughout CBAC, as well as the Meadow Lane Elementary and Olathe Northwest High School parking lots.
Parkville 4th of July Celebration
Parkville’s traditional salute to Independence Day includes a pancake breakfast, a community parade, food, fun, shopping, kids activities, a skydiving exhibition, and our Fireworks Finale at 9:30 p.m. The 4th of July parade begins at 10 a.m. Stick around after the parade for live music and festival vendors from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m., offering food, crafts, games, and more.. Fireworks show will start at 9:30 pm. There are many locations throughout downtown Parkville to watch the fireworks display – the ballfield south of the Parking lot, anywhere on Main Street in downtown Parkville and English Landing Park are the front row seats!! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a front row seat at the Fireworks Show.
Independence Day Festival in Gardner
Country music fans are in for a special treat at this year’s celebration featuring two well-known artists in the industry – Tyler Braden and Graham Barham. Other musical guests include returning fan-favorite Big Time Grain Company, featuring lead vocalist Dylan Gerard from season 13 of The Voice. In addition to the concert, attendees can enjoy various food vendors and activities, with a fireworks show culminating the evening.
The event is free and open to all ages.
